I graduated from the University of Cape Town and obtained my chartered accountant designation in 1974.

Before focusing on writing, I had a 40+-year business career that included public accounting and auditing, business and share valuations, financial management, office productivity improvement consulting, and business ownership and management. My experience in these fields spans six countries on four continents and includes a number of industries —engineering construction, aviation, oil and gas, textiles—and various sizes of enterprises, from multinationals to SMEs.

In addition to purely career pursuits, I served on the board of a professional association, on a political party constituency board, and I successfully spearheaded community projects such as negotiations with a major municipality on the implementation of restricted parking and changes to a bus route.

I now live and write in Chester Basin, on the South Shore of Nova Scotia.

When not at my desk writing or editing, I read, encourage my wife’s botanical art and provide administrative support for her educational activities, maintain the website for my daughter’s urogynecology practice, bird watch, kayak, haul firewood in sub-zero temperatures, shovel snow, repair and renovate stuff, keep the property tidy, and stop to talk whenever I see a Jack Russell terrier. Oh, and I’ve also been known to dole out unsolicited advice on any number of topics.
