I graduated from the University of Cape Town and obtained my Chartered Accountant designation in 1974.

Before turning to writing, I had a career spanning more than four decades that encompassed public accounting and auditing, business and share valuations, financial management, office productivity consulting, and business ownership and management. That career took me across six countries on four continents and through a range of industries — engineering and construction, aviation, oil and gas, and textiles — at enterprises of every scale, from multinationals to SMEs.

Beyond purely professional pursuits, I served on the board of a professional association and on a political party constituency board, and I successfully led community initiatives such as negotiating with a major municipality over restricted parking implementation and changes to a bus route.

I now live and write in Chester Basin, on the South Shore of Nova Scotia.

When I’m not at my desk, I read, encourage my wife’s botanical art and support her educational activities, maintain the website for my daughter’s urogynecology practice, go birdwatching and kayaking, haul firewood in sub-zero temperatures, shovel snow, repair and renovate things, keep the property tidy, and stop to chat whenever I spot a Jack Russell terrier. I’ve also been known to dispense unsolicited advice on any number of topics.
